Reference number: A4281217

Location: New Forest – Hampshire

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person to run our ‘Date with Nature’ over the spring and summer months, based at the Reptile Centre in Lyndhurst, in the heart of the New Forest National Park.

You will be helping visitors to learn more about wildlife, including viewing birds through binoculars and searching for reptiles in their special ‘pods’. You will also create learning opportunity for people of all ages, including running ‘Wild Wednesdays’ events in the school holidays. As well as helping visitors to enjoy the wildlife, you will encourage people to support our vital conservation by becoming RSPB members.

There is no need to be an expert in conservation or membership, just a can-do attitude and a willingness to learn is what you need. Relevant training will be provided but genuine enthusiasm is paramount.

The project opens at the end of March. Training and induction will commence in mid-February and the contract will run until mid-October 2018. Weekend working will be required on a shift pattern.

You will be managed by an RSPB Area Manager who is based off-site, so a willingness to work with a high degree of autonomy is essential. To enjoy this role you need to be happy being in a forest and surrounded by nature, which at times can be very quiet and at other times busy. You will also be happy speaking to a wide variety of people and be prepared to ask them to support the RSPB by becoming members. You will need to be self-motivated and able to use your own initiative to provide visitors with fantastic wildlife stories, activities and experiences.

If you enjoy engaging with people about wildlife and working in a beautiful location, this could be your perfect job!
