Heritage Engagement Assistant, £16,198 – £18,764 per annum (12 Month fixed term contract)
Gloucester Cathedral is one of the most significant heritage destinations in the South West. A historic place of worship which dates its origins back over 1,300 years, we remain open for everyone, 365 days a year and continue to hold services four times a day, every day. A sacred and holy place, a source of local pride and a site of rich history, the Cathedral remains an important focus for the City and County.
But this isn’t heritage preserved in aspic; the Cathedral is a living, breathing building full of activity which is made possible by over 50 staff and an army of 450 volunteers. We welcome over 400,000 visitors each year from all over the world and hold hundreds of events, ranging from skate boarding and nationally acclaimed exhibitions, to Christmas markets and medieval days. We have also just completed the building element of the Heritage Lottery Fund supported Pilgrim Phase 1, a £6M once-in-a-generation project to develop the site into a truly 21st Century Cathedral which provides its visitors with a world-class welcome and is accessible to everyone.
This is where you come in. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and versatile candidate with exceptional people skills to help make sure that Pilgrim delivers its vast potential. As Heritage Engagement Assistant, you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for meeting the project’s wide-ranging objectives, including community engagement and audience development, visitor experience, project evaluation and administration and much more. It’s an immersive and varied role – no day is going to be the same – so we’re looking for someone who is keen to get stuck in, eager to learn and isn’t afraid of hard work.
This opportunity is ideal for a heritage graduate as well as someone who may already have experience of working within this field; where we can offer a great opportunity to experience working life at a significant, multi-faceted heritage site, working with a committed and hardworking team. We want a motivated candidate who can grow and develop with this role and who is excited by the opportunity to make a real difference to the Cathedral.
The Heritage & Engagement Assistant is a full time post of 35 hours per week, working 5 days per week, and who will be required to work some weekends and bank holidays
Closing date is 9am on Tuesday 29th May and interviews will be on Wednesday 6th June 2018
